I’m not sure if this is a Mac thing or a Safari thing, but I cannot tell you how many blogs I’ve found that have vertical ads on the left side that cover the text so much that it can only be read one or two lines at a time. I’m not doing that. Even smaller, square-shaped ads are annoying, but if I see one of these vertical ads that covers almost the entire page, I’m leaving and not coming back. Social media share buttons are almost as dysfunctional.
I remember reading something that showed placing ads on the left was best for some reason, but I don’t remember why. I am asking someone to PLEASE figure this out, it is happening more and more. Does anyone know a solution or a way to address this issue?
Intrusive vertical ads are becoming a significant problem, often covering so much of the text that reading becomes difficult. While I recall that placing ads on the left side may have certain benefits, it does not excuse the negative impact on readability. If anyone has discovered effective methods to manage or reduce this issue, please share your solutions.
I’ve encountered the same frustrating issue with intrusive ads. From my experience, these vertical ads often come from ad networks prioritizing revenue over user experience. Placing ads on the left or right side can sometimes be effective for visibility and clicks, but when they cover the content, it just drives users away. You might want to use ad blockers or browser extensions that can hide these ads, and consider providing feedback to the website’s support team if possible. For site owners, balancing ad placement and user experience is key, and integrating ads in a less intrusive way can actually improve engagement and retention.
