Citing Sources Question

I’m new to blogging :memo: and want to ensure I have everything in order before I start. My blog will be informative :books: and cover topics I’m interested in. For example, if I write about a famous historical figure :classical_building:, I plan to consult multiple sources :open_book: to ensure the information I share is accurate.

If I write about what I learned in my own words, do I need to cite the sources? Would providing a “list” of sources at the bottom of the post :page_facing_up: or on a separate page suffice? I’m not against citing sources; I just don’t want each blog post to feel like a college essay :school: with citations after every sentence.

Well, citation is helpful because there is so much false stuff on the Internet. It’s just a good practice, but as far as I’m aware, there are no hard and fast rules—especially when you’re putting things in your own words. Additionally, if you include direct quotes or statistics, you must credit your sources. Because it lends greater credibility to the content, I personally respect websites more that go over and beyond to mention their sources.

I will link to it if it is a website. If it’s a book, I identify the title while providing a link to the book’s purchase page. However, I write for an entertainment site, therefore I don’t use anything like MLA or APA. Perhaps look at other blogs in your niche to see how they manage things.
