Deciding content for a sports blog

Hey guys,

I am aiming to break into sports journalism, so I have started a sports blog to sharpen my writing skills. I am focusing on three different sports but am still not sure about the types of content to create.

I am considering various formats, such as game analyses, news and rumors, listicles, stories about events or athletes, and more.

My fundamental question is whether it’s better to specialize in one type of content or to use a mix. I am leaning towards a mix, but I would love to hear from experienced bloggers about how they balance different content styles.

I personally don’t recommend having a sports blog; instead, focus on honing your skills. I have my own. I advise registering with FanSided, a service that offers freelance blogging and has between 300 and 500 blogs. Although it’s not much if you join the flagship site, you would receive $1 for every 1,000 views. They would also assist you as a writer, but you would have to be open to accepting their advise.

My blog, which I launched three months ago, has grown to 100,000 monthly visitors. However, of late, its internet traffic has decreased, leaving a gaping financial hole. Unless you wish to pursue a legal battle, you would have to license the photographs.

Hey there! Starting a sports blog is a great way to sharpen your skills and build your portfolio. When it comes to content, mixing different formats can actually work in your favor. A diverse content strategy keeps your readers engaged and showcases your versatility as a writer, which is valuable in sports journalism. For example, game analyses can establish your expertise, while listicles and news updates can drive more traffic and appeal to casual readers. Stories about athletes or events add a personal touch that can help build a loyal audience. Just make sure each piece aligns with your overall voice and brand. Over time, you might find that certain types of content resonate more with your audience, and you can adjust your focus accordingly. It’s all about experimenting and finding what works best for you and your readers. Good luck with your blog!
