Do you have to cite sources for your blog?

I make Personal Finance videos on YouTube but I’m thinking about starting Blogs and Books too (for business purposes). I know it was a must in school to cite sources, but is it actually required legally for a blog? I want to avoid copyright issues, so is my thinking correct?

No, it’s not required, but I’d still suggest citing your sources. It helps your blog’s credibility, especially in finance. Plus, citing in blogs is easier, you just add a link to the original work. It’s not as strict as academic writing.

No, but without sources your content loses value. It basically becomes ‘just trust me’—which isn’t a good look, especially in finance. You’d end up with an audience that isn’t that smart.

You don’t have to, but it makes your blog look more professional!

Nope, but linking to your sources (even if they’re competitors) is a good idea. It helps in the long run.

It depends on how much you’re quoting, what you’re quoting, and how you’re using it.

Grammarly has a free tool for citations. I use it for my posts, especially when I mention news or official sources.

Where can I find that?

Here you go: Free Citation Generator - APA, MLA, Chicago | Grammarly. You just need to sign up.

It didn’t do exactly what I was looking for, it just creates a formatted citation. There are lots of other tools online that do the same.
