I’m thinking of starting a multi-niche blog but keep hearing conflicting advice. Some people are telling me that niche-focused blogs perform better and that Google tends to penalize multi-niche and news-style websites, especially after recent updates. They say it’s hard to rank on Google and drive traffic with a multi-niche site in 2024.
Has anyone here started or currently run a successful multi-niche blog? If so, how’s it going for you in terms of SEO, traffic, and monetization? What challenges did you face, and do you regret not going niche?
I’m really curious to know whether it’s still viable or if I should focus on one specific topic instead. Any advice or personal experiences would be really helpful…
Google hit many multi-niche websites hard in the Helpful Content Update last year, and again in the August core update.
SEO and blogging have changed a lot, and it will keep changing as AI becomes more common.
I wouldn’t recommend covering very different topics, like car repair and raising chickens, but you also don’t need to focus on a super narrow niche either.
I’m assuming you’re talking about a blog that covers multiple topics. If you’re the only writer, it’s a bit unusual to cover many different niches on the same blog unless the topics are somewhat connected. For example…a hiking blog that also includes product reviews for shoes, camping gear, and other outdoor equipment makes sense because the topics complement each other.
However, if you plan on having other writers contribute articles on various unrelated topics, you’ll need significant resources and expertise. In that case, you’re competing against larger, more professional websites, which could make it much tougher to gain traction.
Honestly I am really confused. Sometimes I want to start a blog on trending topics and lifestyle etc and sometimes I want to create blog on student specific. Like everything related to students and for students.
I think multi-niche blogs can still work, but you need a solid strategy. It’s important to create a clear structure on your site so that each niche feels organized and not all over the place. You’ll also need to be prepared for more competition in certain topics. The key is to make sure that your content is valuable and stands out, even if you’re covering multiple subjects.
I went with a niche blog after considering multi-niche, and I’m glad I did. It was easier to build authority in one area, which helped with SEO and audience engagement. I’ve heard from others in the multi-niche space that it’s harder to get traction, but if you’re passionate about multiple subjects, you can still make it work…it just might take longer to see the same level of success.
Been running a multi-niche blog for two years now, and while it’s not impossible to grow, it’s definitely more challenging. I focus on creating high-quality content in each niche, and I’ve found that staying consistent with posting and engaging with my audience helps. SEO has been tricky, but I’ve started to see some success by focusing on long-tail keywords and topics that aren’t overly competitive.
Ran a multi-niche blog and had some success with it, but it became harder to rank after the recent Google updates. The issue I found was building authority in so many different areas—it’s tough to convince Google you’re an expert in multiple topics. If I could do it again, I’d pick a broader niche with related subtopics. That way, it’s still diverse but all content is connected.
