How Important is Tagging Posts for SEO?

Hey y’all…

I’ve been diving into the world of SEO for my blog, and I keep hearing about the importance of tagging posts. As the title says, how crucial is tagging for SEO purposes? I usually take the time to #tag #every #word #possible in the “Tags” field on WordPress, but I’m starting to wonder if this is a bit pointless and if I could save some time by not doing it.

Is it really worth the effort, or can I simplify things? Any insights or advice would be super helpful

The big thing with tagging is that it makes your blog easier for people to use. If it’s simple to navigate and find what they’re looking for, they’ll stick around longer and might even link back to your posts, which can help your search rankings.

This really matters if you have evergreen content because tags can help folks discover your older posts. Basically, it’s all about improving the user experience, which Google keeps saying is the key to good SEO…

I’m not an SEO whiz or anything, but I don’t think tagging is that important. Sure, it might have a little impact, but I bet it won’t make a real difference in the grand scheme of things.

You can throw a ton of tags on poorly written content, and it’ll still be bad. But even great content won’t magically become amazing just because it has a bunch of tags.

Honestly, I think you’d be better off focusing your time on writing instead. That’s where you’ll see real results in on-page SEO.

Again, I’m no expert, but my blog does pretty well without using WordPress’s tagging system. I feel like tags are more for helping people find related content and promoting your other articles to keep readers engaged.

Thank you so much for the insights…

It doesn’t really impact SEO much, but it can change how you appear on the WordPress Reader. I think you should stick to using no more than 8 categories and tags if you want your stuff to show up in the Jetpack Reader.

What’s the WordPress Reader? I don’t use WordPress.com or Jetpack, so does that matter? I just use WordPress for the back-end of my own site.

You don’t have to tag every single word—just focus on the keywords that really matter. The idea is to help your visitors find the info they’re looking for easily, so they can navigate your site without any hassle. This not only boosts your SEO but also encourages people to come back because of the great experience you provide.

Maybe I’ve been using tags wrong, but I use them to sort my posts so that people can find similar stuff easily.
