As 2024 wraps up, I’ve been thinking a lot about how digital marketing is changing. SEO used to be huge, but now with AI-powered search like ChatGPT and Bard, voice search, and constant algorithm updates, it feels like the ground is shifting.
What are your thoughts?
Is SEO still important in 2025, or is it becoming less useful?
It’s definitely struggling. Between the ads, the ‘people also ask’ boxes, and Google pulling content from websites directly, it feels like traditional SEO is fading. Especially for informational sites.
SEO is still very important. Yes, things are changing, but that doesn’t make it useless. It’s all about understanding the updates and adapting. For example, natural language searches are becoming the norm, so it’s better to optimise for full questions rather than just keywords. Local businesses, especially, can still get a lot of leads with tools like Google My Business. And if you’re active on platforms like YouTube or TikTok, SEO works there too.
SEO isn’t dead, but it’s definitely different now. If you’re not doing basic optimisation for your brand, you’re missing out. But if you’re trying to game the system for affiliate marketing, that ship has sailed.
SEO can work really well if you have a good team and clear goals. But it’s not worth it if you’re just starting out with limited resources. You’re better off learning the basics yourself and growing from there. Big companies still see great returns from SEO, but for small businesses, it’s a tough investment.
SEO might not look the same in five years because of how AI changes everything. But people will still be searching for things. If your site isn’t answering their questions and your competitors are, guess who wins? Your main pages should still be unique and informative. General info might lose its value, but SEO will always matter for standing out.
