Looking for Advice on Starting a Blog on Tech, Fitness, and Lifestyle from India… What’s the Best Approach?

I’m looking to start a blog on tech, fitness, meditation, and humor while keeping costs low and operating from India. Should I start on a free platform like Medium or Substack, or should I invest in a custom domain and hosting from the beginning? What are the best platforms, content strategies, and monetization methods for an Indian-based blog?

Own your content from day 1 and always publish on your own domain.

Thanks a lot. Do you recommend using WordPress or is there another platform you would suggest? I used WordPress a while ago but found the learning curve a bit steep and wasn’t able to use it effectively.

I created a free blog on Beehive, then bought a custom .com domain after a month for around 10 bucks. It’s worked pretty well for me.

Thanks for sharing that. Would you suggest WordPress or another platform for my site? I used WordPress years ago and found it tricky to use optimally.

If you can invest in a custom domain and hosting, I’d recommend doing so. Also, try to focus on one niche initially.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll choose one niche to start with and maybe branch out later. Do you suggest WordPress or another platform for the site? I’ve had a hard time using WordPress in the past.

@ALEC
WordPress.org is your best option. Not .com. It’s the most flexible and widely used platform.

Definitely go with a custom domain and hosting… it’s worth it. Since Black Friday is coming up, you might be able to grab a great deal on hosting with a free domain at Hostinger. Having your own site has way more benefits than the initial cost. Let me know if you need more tips.

@Masitsa
Done! I got a great deal. Do you recommend WordPress or another platform? I’ve tried WordPress before, but found it hard to use effectively.

Awesome! I’m happy to hear that. Honestly, I’d say go with WordPress. Once you get the hang of it, it’s great. The plugins, themes, and huge developer community are all bonuses. Let me know how it goes.

The first thing to do is define your purpose and set a goal for your blog. If you share it here, I can give you some practical advice on starting based on that.

To start, I’ll be writing about fitness and my fitness journey. I also work in tech, so I’ll probably write about new tech from time to time, and I might add some humor. What I really want is to write regularly. Thanks for your suggestion .

@ALEC
If you’re just looking to write regularly, you can use free platforms like Blogger or WordPress. If you’re only sharing your journey, these should be enough. For more professional blogging, though, you’ll want to invest in a proper platform.

@PixelPenPalPat
Thank you .

Get a domain name and start! That’s the best way to begin.

Thanks a lot for the advice.

Invest in a custom domain and hosting from the start if you’re serious about blogging long-term. Stick to one niche at first and expand later. Avoid mixing multiple niches on your blog.

Are you new to content creation?

I ran a blog on a custom domain a few years ago, but I stopped writing regularly and eventually shut it down. Now I want to get back into it and wanted to check with others to see if the space has changed and whether a custom domain is still the best option, which it seems like it is!
