Has anyone started a blog and made it profitable within the last two years? Every blogger’s article I read about starting a new blog in 2024 has already been blogging for years. It’s hard to take advice from people who don’t understand starting fresh in a new market.
Yes, started exactly 1 year ago, 70 posts, started monetizing 2 months ago, earnings for those 2 months $310. (Hosting and domain $240 per year)

Hosting and domain costs sound a bit too much. Find a way to reduce it to make your blog even more profitable.
I run a couple of blogs on a single VPS for $5 USD per month.
This requires some knowledge though. Still, you can find some cheaper hosting.
I use Cloudflare to buy (and renew) .com domains for about $10 per year.
@Joan
Can you share where you’ve monetized from? I have a blog up for about a year with good traffic but don’t know what to do with it.

Good insights! My wife’s blog lost a lot of traffic from Google, so she focused on Pinterest and gets a lot of traffic.
My SubStack is at 20,000+ subs and my BeeHiiv at 8,000+ subs. I like newsletters more than blogging now.
Makes me post almost daily during the week since it’s AI news-related.
A blog should just be considered extra revenue from ads and affiliates.
My main focus is selling digital services and digital products.
Even back in 2012, my blog for crowdfunding was getting a lot of traffic from Google, but I sold a lot of Kickstarter marketing services.
Blogs that rely just on Google and ads are dying.
Build a brand, and a blog is just for added trust and to boost your authority, but grow a community or social media following.

Thanks! I’m letting SubStack grow from their platform organically now. Focused on BeeHiiv from social media traffic.
@Ron
Any tips for starting with 0 followers on SubStack or SubStack vs. BeeHiiv?

Make sure you repurpose for other platforms. You have AI that can create faceless short videos from your content.
Reels, Shorts, and TikTok is how you reach a lot of people faster. Call to action is sign up for your SubStack.

Nice, I got it. Thank you.
I started my blog almost 2 years ago (spring 2023) and I’m doing okay off of it. It’s my full-time job.

How did you drive traffic to your blog in the initial stages? Can you give some tips?
@Della
I took a travel blogging course, so that helped a lot. They taught me how to set up my site, how to do keyword research, and stuff like that. I’m in the travel niche.

Which course did you go with? And do you think it made a big difference?

What’s your niche and what does your monthly income look like?
@CommentCrafter
Travel, and I make around $4k per month. Not great, but not bad at all for doing what I love the most.
