I’ve been using SiteGround for my WordPress blog for a year, but the renewal price is crazy high! I’m considering switching to Hostinger because it seems more affordable and better for growth. It looks simple enough, and Hostinger offers support during migration. Has anyone switched hosting providers before? Can anything go wrong? I’m mainly worried about SEO rankings and traffic during the move.

Most hosts use Linux. Shell access means you can use the command line (it looks like a DOS window) to do tasks like moving files or dumping databases.
There are tools to move a WP site without shell access, but I haven’t used them myself.
@Benaiah
Just a heads-up, if you’re not experienced with shells, don’t mess with them too much… it’s easy to mess things up if you’re not careful, especially on the host’s side.

Yep, you can easily mess up everything if you’re not careful.

I took an IT course and tried it. It was pretty scary haha. I even know someone who tried coding for a while, and it was no joke.
It’s not that scary once you get used to it. I’m thinking of offering a webinar on WP site migration while I’m job hunting… Would anyone here be interested?
@NooserMooker
It typically lasts a few days after the move. If you’re not familiar with the tech side, it might be a good idea to hire someone who knows how to handle it.
I tried both, but wasn’t happy with either. If you have decent traffic or more than one site, I’d suggest a different host. I’ve been using Cloudways for the past 4 years.

I only have one small blog, so Cloudways is too expensive for me right now.
Migrating from SiteGround to Hostinger can be a good choice, especially if you’re looking to save money and grow your blog. The process is usually pretty easy, and Hostinger offers support.
For SEO and traffic, as long as you do the migration right, it shouldn’t harm your rankings. Here are some tips:
Backup Everything: Always back up your website files and database.
Use a Migration Plugin: Hostinger offers one, or you can use Duplicator.
Set Up Redirects: Make sure your domain and URLs are correctly pointing to the new hosting.
Monitor Your Site: Keep an eye on your traffic and rankings after the move to catch any small issues.
If you follow these tips, the transition should be smooth without hurting your SEO. Best of luck with your move!
