What do you think is the ideal frequency and length for blog posts?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been diving into cookbook advice that suggests posting 2500-word articles 3-5 times a week to keep readers engaged and improve SEO. However, this pace seems pretty intense for a solo blogger like myself. I’m struggling with finding a realistic balance between post frequency and quality, especially since I use AI to help with writing but always edit extensively because I’m not satisfied with raw AI content.

I’m curious about your experiences and strategies for managing this. How often do you post, and what’s the typical length of your posts? Do you have any tips or hacks for maintaining quality while also keeping up with a reasonable posting schedule? Any lessons learned or adjustments you’ve made that have helped you?

Here are some easy ways to keep up with regular posting without losing quality:

  • Quality Over Quantity: Don’t rush to post more often. Instead, focus on creating deep, informative content that offers real value.
  • Batching Work: Set aside blocks of time just for content creation, so you can research, write, and edit without interruptions.
  • Repurpose Content: Take your existing content and present it in new formats like videos or social media posts.
  • Use Outlines: Write detailed outlines before diving into your posts. It saves time and helps keep your writing organized.
  • Smart Use of AI: Use AI tools to help with writing or research, but always double-check facts and refine the content to match your voice.
  • Realistic Posting Goals: Set a schedule that you can stick to, based on how much you can handle without stressing.
  • Prioritize Topics: Focus on topics that you and your audience care about most.
  • Engage with Readers: Take time to reply to comments and interact with your audience to build a connection.

I usually publish 2-3 detailed articles per week, each between 1,000 and 2,500 words. While I sometimes use AI for brainstorming or research, I spend a lot of time editing, fact-checking, and adding my personal insights.

Don’t pay attention to most of the suggestions in this post. The best thing you can do is look at the sites that are ranking above yours on Google’s first page. Check out their blog posts for more information. After that, you’ll know how long your blog posts should be. There is no one length that works best for all blog posts. It all depends on your area and what your rivals are doing.

Research suggests blogs should be at least 300 words to rank but ideally over 1,000 words. If the writer lacks experience, aiming for 700-800 words is better. Otherwise, they may add unnecessary content just to increase the word count.

I researched this with expertise. 1000 words is the average length of blog entries, according to analysis of the best-performing ones. However, it’s not a straightforward ranking mechanism.

My client frequently ranks well and publishes incredibly long posts. I also get ranked for the 500–800 word articles that I publish. When you search “blog hosting subdomain vs. subfolder” on Google, you’ll discover that quality really does win out over quantity.
