Any ideas on what website or blog to create for practicing SEO this year?

This might sound like a silly question, but I want to make sure I do things right, especially since SEO is uncertain in 2024.

I’m a content writer wanting to learn SEO to add to my skills. What kind of website should I create for this? Before, it was easy to just set up a site and write about any topic you knew well. But with new Google updates and the focus on EEAT, it seems different now.

Ideally, I’d like to blog about mental health because I’ve dealt with anxiety before. But I don’t think that’s a good idea since I’m not a mental health expert and Google might penalize my site for that.

So I’m considering the tech topics I write about. I’m a computer science graduate and will soon get my certificate. Should I focus on one of these tech areas?

Or am I just overthinking this?

I think you should choose something you really like and learn more about it. Share your journey and what you learn.

I’m not sure about mental health as your topic for the reasons you mentioned. Regarding your computer science degree, is there a specific area you’re interested in? Tech is a broad subject, so maybe pick a more focused topic. Also, like another person suggested, start a video channel. Having both a site and a channel can be very helpful.

For example, I’ve worked with my TrueNAS, Proxmox, and Raspberry Pi devices. I could write about how I set them up, manage them, and solve problems I faced.

Thanks. This is insightful. I’m very interested in cloud computing and have been writing and learning about it for some time now. Do you think that’s niche enough? Or would it be better to narrow down the niche further into an area like cloud fintech or cloud telecoms?

@Brown
Going deeper with cloud fintech and cloud telecoms would be more specific. You can always expand if you see growth opportunities once your site is established.

Thank you!

I suggest setting up a directory website.

Choose a specific area, like chiropractors in New York.

Find and list them on your site.

Write blogs related to that niche.

Monitor your traffic.

Then you can make money from it.

@Jane
This seems like an awesome idea, honestly! I’ll consider it. Thank you.

Finish your degree and save up some money to create a quality website. I think blogging might not be worth the time. Try YouTube instead. It’s great for getting views and earning money.

You’re doing great! As a computer science graduate, writing about tech topics like software, programming, or AI would be perfect. It will help you practice SEO and follow Google’s EEAT rules. Stick to what you know and create high-quality, useful content. You’re not overthinking this!

Every piece you create helps you improve your skills and understand SEO better. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, but everyone starts somewhere. Many successful bloggers have gone through the same challenges you’re facing.

Focus on what you know and love. With your background as a content writer and a computer science graduate, you have good options. Writing about tech topics related to your studies could work well.

Over time, you can build authority in your area, which is where the real rewards come from. Keep going, keep learning, and be ready to adapt.

If you need help with SEO and getting noticed online, check out Digital Rainmaker. They use strategies to help websites improve their search rankings and reach their audience. Just make sure to research and see if their methods fit your goals.

Just stick to what you know best. It’s easier to learn, so you can focus on writing instead of trying to learn something completely new. Learning new things is good, but you can do it while using what you learned in college.

You already know the answer! Choose something you’re interested in and just start creating.

Pick a strategy and include it. Maybe social media, keyword research, or optimization.

Don’t treat it like a job. Treat it like a hobby. You’ll likely learn a lot more that way :slight_smile:

There’s so much great advice here. It’s really helpful.

Even better, why not offer your services for free to small companies? That way, both of you can benefit from it.
