I got this blog that was slowly climbing the ranks and hit 6K clicks a month by year 3. I thought that growth was pretty slow, so I started using AI to pump out more content. Now, in year 4 (this year), it’s dropped down to just 500 clicks a month. Do you think I can recover by switching back to more humanized content? TIA…
If this is your 4th year, there are a bunch of reasons besides AI for your content getting so few links. The biggest ones are the updates from March and August. If AI content is written with user intent in mind, it shouldn’t hurt too much.
Delete all the posts written by AI. Get rid of any posts that target long-tail keywords, especially those that mainly answer questions.
Check Google Search Console for posts with zero clicks. Improve those posts, and if you can’t, just delete them.
Focus on writing more human-like content without stuffing the target keyword in the title or most headings, and don’t repeat the keyword too much. Then just wait for the next core update, and you should see a difference
Why remove long-tail keywords that answer questions? My top articles focus on Google-suggested questions like "Why do…?
Yes, those keywords are easy to rank for, and many people start with them. However, Google penalizes sites that focus solely on long-tail keywords. New sites may see some success initially, but a Google update can bring their traffic back down to zero. It’s unfortunate.
Classic example of why you shouldn’t use AI…Just write your own content, and you should start to see some recovery over time.
