Hey bloggers…
I’ve been blogging for about a year now, and overall I’m really happy with my progress. My blog metrics are solid, growth is steady, and I’m enrolled in Mediavine Journey. I’m also making some affiliate sales through Amazon and Etsy.
However, one thing I’ve noticed is a lack of blog comments. Aside from spam, I’ve had maybe two legitimate comments. For context, I’m expecting around 16,000 views this month. My niche is DIY/arts and crafts, and I mainly promote my content on Pinterest, where I’ve received a few comments on my pins.
I’ve even gotten lovely emails from readers, but they seem to prefer emailing me instead of leaving comments on my blog. Is there something I could be doing to encourage more commenting? Do blog comments even matter when it comes to SEO or relevancy scores?
I’m not sure comments are really important anymore, except for spam. I actually turned them off completely, but I’m not an expert, so just keep that in mind.
I have several blogs. My first one allows comments, but the others don’t.
In my opinion, comments aren’t really important anymore. My first blog doesn’t get any real benefit from comments, and I just end up dealing with a lot of spam.
I prefer using social media to connect with readers. People seem more likely to engage there than in blog comments these days.
I think comments matter more to the blogger than the audience. Unless you’re covering controversial topics that spark discussion, it really depends on what type of content you’re sharing.
My website focuses on my books, webcomic, and movies. Personally, I’m always thrilled to get comments, and I wish it happened more often, especially since I have a membership feature. But in the end, it’s not something worth stressing over if it doesn’t happen often.
Cool site, thanks for sharing! I’ve had comments enabled on some of my previous blogs, but I’ve decided to stop using them going forward. For me, there was just too much spam and nonsense to deal with.
