I started blogging about Artificial Intelligence recently. English isn’t my first language, but my job is quite technical, so I read about AI stuff like LLMs regularly.
A week ago, I wrote two blogs and submitted my website’s sitemap.xml for Google to index. Even though a week passed, Google still shows ‘Page discovered - currently not indexed’.
I did a lot of research for my blogs, wrote the content myself, gathered info from trustworthy sources, and used ChatGPT to improve the content. I even included examples ChatGPT gave me, and the final result looked great.
But I’m worried Google might think my content is unoriginal and duplicate. Should I start writing everything myself and only use ChatGPT for small changes or keyword placement?
Yeah, it’s tricky with AI-generated content. Google can be picky about what it indexes. I’d say mixing in more of your own writing alongside ChatGPT could help. Maybe use ChatGPT for tweaks and ideas rather than the whole piece.
Also, make sure your sitemap’s good and your site’s technically sound. Sometimes those things can mess with indexing too. Hang in there, it’s a bit of trial and error sometimes .
I want to believe that Google doesn’t care as long as it’s good, but the truth is, Google is using AI. If all the content ranking in Google is written using AI, and then Google uses AI to provide answers based on this, it creates a loop. It’s just not in Google’s best interest to rank AI content even if it’s okay.
For my anecdotal experience, I’ve created a website that was 90% AI and it didn’t rank. It had some links, but it’s now 50% AI and still doesn’t rank at all on Google. It ranks extremely high on Bing, which makes me think Google has applied an algorithmic penalty, likely because it’s AI.
I’ve also had clients who added AI content to e-commerce category and product pages and saw really good performance. I now think it might just be blogs that are penalized.
Relax. It takes longer than a week for pages to get indexed when you’re starting out. As Google has its own AI results at the top of search results, people are unlikely to see your pages even if they’re ranked on page 1.

Thanks for your response. Actually, even though I used AI to expand my content, I added two hands-on YouTube videos I made for the blog. Will it still not help?

I think it’s easier to get traction on YouTube than with a blog. I don’t think either will help the other though. Try both and see which one does best.
If your content doesn’t really add new information to what’s already out there, Google might not index it. Indexation isn’t guaranteed.
If your website is brand new, this is probably the biggest factor. It can take time for Google to index pages from new sites, even if you manually submit them.
‘Should I start writing by myself and use ChatGPT only for modifications and keyword placement?’ - Yes, using AI for spelling, grammar, and similar tasks is fine.

Yeah, my website is new. I just launched it and submitted my first blog 5 days ago. I’ve gathered content from several sources and asked ChatGPT to add examples to make it easier for readers. I wrote some content on my own and asked ChatGPT to expand it and add examples. Would this hurt? I also asked ChatGPT in incognito if my blog looked AI-written, and it said yes. Looks like I need to spend more time crafting content.

It can’t be said for certain that your content is the issue, considering the age of your website. But generally, it’s better to create content manually and work your own experiences into it. That way, you won’t need to second-guess whether AI is the problem, and you’ll likely have a better chance of offering something unique and valuable that readers will want to return to.
For new blogs or websites with new posts, you have to wait for some time. It can take up to a few weeks to get impressions and clicks. Keep posting content on your niche and your expertise consistently, and you’ll start seeing results soon. Hope you know the SEO stuff to integrate into posts to help them show up in search. Well-written AI content does rank. Thin or low-quality content has little chance of getting indexed or showing up in results.
