How do I get my website to show up on ChatGPT?

What should I know if I want to make my site appear on ChatGPT and bring in more visitors? Looking for practical tips.

ChatGPT doesn’t rank results unless you ask it to. But to get mentioned as a source, try looking at Google’s AI results and similar tools like Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. Then create the best version of all those answers and spread it across this forum, Quora, Medium, and other platforms.

For local SEO, here’s a method to try:

  1. Enter your prompt on ChatGPT.
  2. Ask why it chose those specific results.
  3. Write down the sources that were cited.
  4. Ask why your site wasn’t included.
  5. Address any overlaps from steps 2 and 4.
  6. Make sure your site stands out in step 3’s citations.

While you’re waiting for results, maybe pour yourself a nice glass of wine or your favorite drink and relax.

For product rankings, try this:

  1. Enter your prompt.
  2. Ask why it picked those results.
  3. Note the product details it considered.
  4. Check why your product didn’t appear.
  5. Adjust based on what you found in steps 2 and 4.
  6. Make sure your product details match what ChatGPT prefers.

Sometimes, it’s just about tweaking things until the AI notices your brand. So, test and share what works. And hey, if you see success, give us a celebratory thumbs-up here. Good luck.

Tried all that, but it looks like ChatGPT is focusing on popular sites or those that get attention quickly.

It might help to focus on Bing too. If you rank on Bing, ChatGPT and sometimes even Claude might pick it up. I launched a website for my software (not even public yet), and somehow it’s showing up in ChatGPT! I’ll post the screenshot of my prompt soon.

Really?

Nice, thanks for sharing. I’ll give it a go too.

How are you sure you’ll get traffic, even if your answer appears on ChatGPT? If the AI answers their question, why would users even visit your site?

If you’re ranking well on Google and Bing, there’s a good chance you’ll also show up on ChatGPT.

Just focus on providing real value. Everything else is mostly guesswork.

But how does ChatGPT even decide what’s valuable? Curious.

Add question-based keywords and FAQs on your site; it seems to help.

Establish your website or brand as an authority in your field. Getting into the Knowledge Graph would be a big help too.

Are you sure they’re using Knowledge Graphs yet? I haven’t seen anything saying they are.

Focus on Bing rankings since that’s where ChatGPT pulls from.

High-quality content is key. ChatGPT seems to favour clear, useful information that’s well-researched.

Using structured data like FAQ or blog schemas can help Bing and Google understand your content, which could increase visibility.

I’ve been working on a tool to help businesses rank better on AI models. From what I’ve observed, AI often favours Google’s top 10 search results. There are exceptions, but overall, ranking well on Google boosts your chances on AI models.

One content trick that works is making ‘X vs Y’ blog posts. AI models seem to pick those up more often.

By the way you asked, you might just want to focus on traffic from Google.

I still find it odd people think ChatGPT (a paid tool) could replace Google (free for everyone). Optimise for Google first and see how it goes.

A study by a university recently looked at how on-site content affects ChatGPT results. The best optimisations included things like quotes, statistics, clear language, and including sources.

‘Generative Engine Optimisation’ might be worth reading up on. Foundation has some great articles on it, so check those out to get started.

Am I allowed to share links here? I have a blog post I’d like to share.
