I am working on a webshop as a side business. I can build websites and everything around them, but no SEO. Recently, I hired someone for that and lost a lot of money. The end result is that nothing was done, and I did pay over $1500.
Now I have decided to start doing this myself, but I am completely new and don’t understand much about it yet. I have watched several YouTube videos and asked ChatGPT for help but can’t figure it out.
Where can I start? My budget is pretty much gone now to outsource this yet. them
I hope you guys can help me because I am even considering quitting my webshop because of this.
The fastest you’ll see results, realistically, is about 3 months. More often 6 months.
In part, this is because Google doesn’t make big changes quickly.
The upside is that you’ll have some security once you’ve reached the top.
I’d NEVER quote someone $1,500 for major results in less than 3 months. In fact, $1,500 is only enough for me to provide roadmap and consulting over 3 months. The content production, onsite optimisation, and offsite work would cost more than $1,500 by themselves, leaving me with little to nothing.
I’d say $3,000 would be enough to guarantee significant results in 3 months for a client in a low competition, local market. It would be MUCH more money and 6 months for a highly competitive market.
People always underestimate the amount of work that goes into SEO, it’s a thankless industry full of impatient and budget pressed clients. I can totally relate to their side of things, but this is why it’s so important to set clear expectations at the outside and to decline clients liberally.
@Spenser
I am very aware that it takes time before you see results, that is the annoying thing about SEO. I paid 1500 for a period of 6 months, during which it was guaranteed that I would end up at the top of google with at least 1 page. In addition, my entire website would be SEO optimized.
Unfortunately, this did not happen. I found out that nothing was actually done about the SEO, despite being paid. So I was simply ripped off, regardless of the fact that it takes a period of time to show up. I am in a low competition market, some keywords of which semrush says is very easy to rank high in google.
I am also only now seeing how much work SEO is now that I am working on it. Since I don’t think I will have enough budget in the upcoming period to pay someone properly I want to take it up myself. It is very unfortunate that it had to go this way .
@Christine
Oh, that really sucks. Any professional SEO should be able to provide a breakdown of what work has been done in a transparent way. I’m sorry you got ripped off.
I have a few tricks I can share with you privately, just send me a private message and I’ll send those over when I have a chance. It’s nothing magical, but they’re resources people outside the industry don’t know about.
Best to have at least a freelancer do it for you if not an agency. So you focus on your business. What you do best.
Will check them out!
Totally agree it’s better to let a freelancer do it, but since I lost a lot of budget, and freelancers aren’t cheap, I don’t have the resources to let someone else do it.
SEO takes time and you need patience, to my experience people get impatient for results. If you can wait for long then trust any SEO pro and outsource the job. If not then do not trust any one, do it yourslef. Youtube videos and Chat GPT is a good start also try some tools like Ahrefs, SERanking, Serpstat - in addition to all these make sure your site is fully optimized for speed. Check core web vitals, track analytics, keep checking webmaster tools. Rest will take time and you are good. If you need further help then i can help you, but it will charged.
@JamesHenry
Thanks for your response! Are there any youtube channels you recommend watching? This person has been doing it for over six months but the results are really terrible. For example, my position on google is only page 12. Some products score extremely bad. And overall scan via Samrush only shows that there is actually almost nothing.
I am going to look at the tools! I’ll also send you a private message
@Christine
Honestly its difficult to analyse the work he has done except for one-site/page work. If you can give me the URL i can check few things. But even then, as i said SEO takes time and if your competition is high then it might take a year or more.
