Ireland Tax Info for UK earnings… is it really needed?

AdSense is saying I need to submit this new form with something called a Certificate of Residence, which I’ve never heard of or had before. They’re saying without it, there could be delays in payouts due to incorrect tax withholding.

Do I actually need this certificate for my YouTube earnings?

I’ve seen mixed advice about this online. Some say it’s only for website ads (which I don’t run), so it shouldn’t matter for me. Others are saying they’ve requested this certificate from HMRC and had to wait months without getting it.

I’ve always done the US Tax Info, but this new Ireland Tax Info has me confused, and I don’t know anyone who has this certificate they’re asking for.

I found some info in the AdSense help center about non-US tax details:

The article says if you don’t submit the info, it might mean a higher withholding tax deduction if required by local tax law.

But here’s the part that might help you: tax residency info for Ireland or Singapore won’t impact your account or payouts for now. They’ll notify you if anything changes.

@frank
That’s really helpful, thanks!

It’s just a routine step, it shouldn’t affect you.

Thanks for confirming!

Wait, what does that mean? I got the same message and I’m nervous it might mess with my payments.

Just go ahead and fill it out, it’ll be approved quickly. If you’re outside Ireland, this shouldn’t impact you at all.

@Evannah
Appreciate it! But if I don’t fill it in, could that be a problem? I’ve been ignoring it for months without any issues so far.

You could ignore it for now, but it’s better to do it sooner rather than later. Google needs this info for tax compliance with Ireland, so they can send payments from Ireland without problems.

If you keep ignoring it, they might hold payments in the future. I did it about six months ago, and everything’s been fine since.

Hope that helps :blush::heart:

@Evannah
Yes, super helpful, thank you!
