Is Wix good for newbies looking to monetize their blog?

Hi everyone,

I just started blogging and really want to share my thoughts on various topics. I’ve traveled a bit and think a blog is a great way to compile my experiences. I aim to make some income through Adsense and affiliate marketing. Currently, I’m using Wix to build my blog. Is this platform suitable for me, or should I consider something else?

Thanks a lot

Update: Thank you all for your insights. After some digging, I see that WordPress seems to be a better option. I will share my blog once it’s set up. Looking to have it ready in about two months. Cheers .

Wix isn’t great. I’d go for SimDif instead.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll check out SimDif.

Wix isn’t the best for blogging. It’s okay for business sites. If you’re serious about blogging, WordPress is the way to go.

I haven’t used Wix, so I can’t say much. I’m a WordPress user and think it’s the best choice for bloggers, both new and experienced. It can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but it’s easy to learn, and there’s plenty of help available. While it’s not the only option, once you get used to WordPress, you might not want to try anything else.

I have a Wix site, and it works for me as a beginner. Just keep in mind that Wix sites can be slow.

I agree, it does slow down at times.

As a newer blogger using Wix, I face some challenges with site speed and indexing pages. While it’s easy to create a site without needing much technical knowledge, their support has been helpful. They have tools for monetization, but it can get pricey. I’m exploring other options since I expect my Wix fees to rise soon. Be cautious of claims that WordPress is the only solution; there’s a difference between Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org.

Have you ever noticed a drop in views that seemed odd? They didn’t have a good explanation.

I can’t say since I focus on monthly trends. But I have faced other analytics problems like email counts being inaccurate, and nobody seems to explain that.

I just saw this thread and wanted to share my Wix experience. I’ve found it user-friendly as a beginner, and I’ve built three sites on it, including a football blog, a quiz site, and a gaming community site. I’m not a web designer, but all my sites run smoothly. I haven’t tried WordPress or Squarespace, so I can’t compare, but Wix meets my needs well. Good luck with your blogging!

SaaS platforms like Wix are decent if you only want to create a few pages. However, costs add up quickly, from contact forms to simple features that are free elsewhere. You can end up paying hundreds for what could be a simple site costing $20/month on other platforms, especially with e-commerce options where costs skyrocket.

I use Wix for my food blog and find it user-friendly with decent analytics. I’m not monetizing, but I enjoy it as a platform, even as a beginner. Curious about others’ thoughts.

I use WordPress myself, and it’s been great for me, especially for monetizing through Hydro Online.

Here’s my Wix food blog as an example… I’m still figuring things out: www.foodigenous.com

I’m really frustrated with Wix Studio and their pricing for web design agencies. They charge web developers retail rates for hosting, which leaves little profit. For US customers, the yearly rate is $19/month, but it’s cheaper for UK customers. To compare, Bluehost is $2.95/month, SiteGround is $3.99/month, and HostGator is $2.75/month. Wix’s pricing seems unreasonable when there are better options available.

Web designers shouldn’t rely on Wix’s 50% discounts for fair pricing. This situation makes Wix Studio hard to use for professionals who need steady pricing to keep their businesses running. Wix’s Editor X didn’t work out well, lacking reliability for high-end projects. They rushed to introduce Wix Studio, but many users experienced bugs and issues moving their sites over.

Wix’s marketing made it seem like a great upgrade, but the process was confusing and frustrating for those transitioning from Editor X. If Wix wants to appeal to freelance web designers, they must provide better hosting rates. Their current model isn’t aligned with what web design agencies need to succeed. I’m planning to rebuild my sites on a different platform that values web designers and offers reasonable pricing.

Hi there! I’m also using Wix as a beginner. I find it user-friendly and full of tutorials, but I’m not sure how great it is for monetization. I’ve heard WordPress and Squarespace are popular choices, but I need to do more research first.
