I’m about a month into my blog (no real traffic yet) and I want to make sure I’m setting myself up well in terms of legal disclosures. I’ve seen a few templates you can purchase for these pages like Privacy Policy, Disclaimer, and T&Cs. Is it worth purchasing these or can they be done on your own?
The templates I’m currently looking at are through A Self Guru and are $197 for these 3 templates. These have been recommended by other bloggers but I fell for the Bluehost affiliate plug so checking here to make sure it’s worth spending the money!
I used Termly, and thus far, they’ve been satisfactory!
In order to shield myself from being sued as me for anything I publish, I also registered as an LLC. I didn’t want to take the chance since I had learnt that whatever you post before you are a business might get you sued personally, even if you are a business at the time of the lawsuit. I would consider it before doing it because it was quite pricey.
There are several excellent episodes of The Ultimate Blog Podcast that cover both the commercial and legal aspects of blogging. I advise looking them up.
Iubenda was my first choice, however I felt that their price was far too expensive. Termly is being used now.
To be honest, I believe it depends on the type of information you’re publishing and the potential for litigation around the topic.
If it has to do with your health, you should take extra precautions and safeguard yourself. If you aren’t an LLC and you have a lot of personal assets that you can lose in a lawsuit, proceed with caution.
For our part, we own a home, have two children, and have a little retirement fund. I decided to go with Termly and just applied for an LLC as I didn’t want to jeopardise our financial future in any way. But at this moment, I’m developing my website into more than just a blog, so it made sense to move forward with that.
You may utilise and modify many free templates available online to make them work for your own site. I suggest that you merely complete those at first and update them later.
Required? Indeed, particularly if you intend to gather emails.
Right now, there are free templates that will work just fine. Later on, you may step things up with more expensive versions, which can include templates created by lawyers or real lawyers you meet in person.
