Question for starting a sports blog

I want to start a sports blog about a specific team. I don’t have any expectations for money yet, I just want to start this as a hobby because I enjoy talking about sports. My first question is, how do I name it? Am I allowed to use the name of the team, or should I choose a more generic sports website name? Should I use my personal name? Also, is there a significant difference between bloggers who create their own websites on platforms like Ghost or WordPress versus using Medium or Substack?

Hey @Zachary , for your sports blog, you can definitely use the team’s name if it’s not trademarked. It’ll make it clear what your blog’s about! If you’re aiming for a personal touch, using your own name works too—it’s like putting your stamp on it.

As for platforms, making your own site on WordPress or Ghost gives you more control and personalization, but Medium or Substack are easier and great for reaching an audience quickly.

I started one myself a little late, but it was only a side project. Using WordPress.com merely as a learning tool for blogging. If you want to do more than just create posts and customize your website to your heart’s content, it’s simple, but it’s also costly and limiting.
By now, you’ve undoubtedly chosen a name, but mine was the only one that worked for my group and my blog’s tone. I chose KanesCabbie since it’s a blog about the Blackhawks and I don’t take myself too seriously. makes a tasteless reference to an incident that fans would be aware of.
