Should I let AdSense pick where to put ads on my site?

AdSense suggests letting them place ads automatically, like it’s the best option. But when I check my site on my phone, I’m seeing quite a few ads, even three showing before my site’s name or banner.

Anyone know what the best number of ads per page is? I run a blog with decent traffic, five blog posts displayed with a ‘read more’ link, and the usual header and footer.

Try placing 3 to 5 ads per page. Fewer ads are often better because too many can lower the quality of the ads you get, and your CPM can drop too.

When you say ‘quality,’ what exactly do you mean?

If you use auto ads, it might add a ton of ads all over your site. I think it’s better to place ads manually so it doesn’t look cluttered.

If you can, placing ads manually is usually better.

I do a mix of both manual and auto ads. You can set limits on how many auto ads show up, and I also block ads from certain areas of my page. Auto ads have some formats that manual ads don’t offer, so I like combining them.
