What else is there in SEO apart from Keywords and Backlinks?

Good afternoon,

I’m just starting out with SEO and most of what I find focuses on keywords and backlinks. Are there other things to consider in SEO?

I’ve come across ideas like content uniqueness and using transition words, but I want to know more beyond these two.

Is this from Google’s guide or is it someone else’s?

Yes, this is from January this year. They updated it again and it’s pretty interesting. A lot of SEO experts seem to have missed it though.

Wow, this answers so many questions. SEO isn’t as complicated as it seems.

Exactly, it’s much simpler when you look at it this way. What was the most surprising thing for you?

It made me realise it’s less about ‘bro science’ and more about just doing what’s good for your site.

It’s all about the numbers. PageRank is key (it’s central to SEO) - they just don’t want you focusing too much on it. It’s like how horsepower is important in car racing, but you shouldn’t obsess over it. But in the end, the car with more horsepower is probably going to win.

What do you think about traditional keyword research and long-tail keywords now? With AI, do you think things will change or are we still sticking to the same old methods?

I think you’re talking about cornerstone content. That’s the only way for low-authority sites to rank. Google doesn’t rank based on content alone – it ranks based on authority (PageRank). Without authority, even with great content, you can’t rank. That’s why people created the cornerstone strategy.

@letstalkaboutit
Does keyword research change depending on your authority level?

I think this is an interesting point. In lower authority markets, it might be better to focus on content that targets specific niches first, and build authority over time before focusing on competitive keywords.
