I’ve built a more price-friendly Ahrefs, but I need some direction. The question is simple: what would it take for you to switch away from Ahrefs? I’d like to know what features are an absolute must for you to even consider an alternative. I’m particularly interested in hearing from long-term Ahrefs users, especially those who use their API.
To me, the most important feature in a tool like Ahrefs or Semrush is having data that is as accurate as possible. Nothing else is all that important to me.

Got it. What do you think about filtering the data, like pre-filtering extremely spammy backlinks? Would that blur the whole picture, or would it help you identify quality backlinks faster?
@MaryJane
I haven’t seen anything that does a very good job of filtering spammy backlinks. I usually use these tools more for traffic analysis of competitors, topic research, etc.
@MaryJane
Heck, I don’t care about post-filtering or even the UI. Just give me a CSV download button and the same accuracy at a quarter of the price, and I’ll take it.

Then you might like it! Would you like to give it a try?
@MaryJane
Honestly, if you offer a service at $10 a month that can do keyword tracking, rank tracking, and content creation, that’s something accurate and usable, and you’ll have me on board. Right now, I’m weighing a few services against learning Python to build an Ahrefs tool from open-sourced code repositories by GPT.

Exactly! I don’t need all the fancy options. I just need the raw data; if I want analysis, I’ll feed it to ChatGPT for that.
I use Ahrefs every day and love it, although the pricing is high. All I need is accurate data, a good user interface, and an easy way to export data. I’d be happy to look at your tool and give my thoughts.
@Leeland
Same!

Sounds good! I’ll DM you in a sec.
I’m seriously looking for an alternative since Ahrefs and Semrush have become way costlier now. Although Ahrefs’ $29 plan is for starters, it doesn’t have enough. Their disavow feature doesn’t really work; Semrush is better.
I suggest adding a feature that can report broken images. Semrush, Majestic, or Ahrefs don’t have it.
I use SEMrush because my expertise is in driving organic traffic. I need tools for content gap analysis, on-page recommendations, and SEO topic tools that help me create briefs for writers. It’s more about optimizing what’s already there than fixing something that’s broken.
What does your tool do exactly? Then I can answer your question. I kinda doubt that you built a full alternative to Ahrefs. I even doubt that you built a tool that is a real alternative to just ONE of the tools Ahrefs offers (keyword research, site explorer with competitive data for links and organic performance, site audit), except maybe a rank tracker.
@Charlotte
Would you like to take a look and let me know what you think? I’ll send you a DM with the credentials for a test account.
The main question here is, where is the data coming from?
Not just provide me with SEO data, but also give me concrete advice on exactly what to do.
You would need to explain exactly how you have the same level or better keyword and link data.
