When I was a teenager, I enjoyed creating blogs: designing themes, posting articles, and interacting with other bloggers. Now, at 25, I want to return to blogging in my spare time with more serious topics, especially health (my job) and books. I used to be on Eklablog and Tumblr, but those no longer appeal to me.
My goals are to interact with users based on common interests and to have fun customizing my theme with basic coding (CSS, HTML, JavaScript). I don’t like WordPress and prefer a free, ad-free platform with a healthy, friendly user atmosphere.
I had zero knowledge of website development when I started. I invested in a $15 Udemy course to learn self hosted Wordpress and have never looked back. I’m still learning but the $15 investment was so worth it for me due to the support from the course creator.
Hey, I recommend Wordpress.com for the convenience of having it set up with the theme and then simply connecting to the hosting provider. It was faster for me to set up, but it may not be as flexible as Wordpress.org, based on what I’ve read.
@Gordon Salutations! Do you recall what that course’s name was? Could you also tell me how much you pay each month to maintain the site (I assume it’s a blog?) operational?
If you don’t mind, Blogger is a free platform without any adverts.
It also provides infinite storage for images. Furthermore, unlike Medium, everyone may read the blog without a special account (until you restrict it).
However, it lacks a social media component; for that, you would have to share links to your work on social media.
