I probably could have come up with a better title, but here we are.
I started my literary/creative writing blog around four months ago, but I just created an about me page today. It looks decent on my laptop, but the layout isn’t great on mobile devices, especially tablets. I guess that is something I need to fix as I get better with WordPress.
So how do you all feel about About pages as bloggers with different niches? Are they really necessary? How do you go about creating one if you want to stay anonymous as the site owner? Do About pages matter less when your site links to your personal social media, so people can see who you are as a writer?
My questions might not make much sense, so please jump in with any related thoughts or advice.
They can also be useful for some bloggers who might want to move a lot of general info to an About page instead of keeping it on the Home page. That is a big improvement since nobody needs to see that stuff every time they visit.
@PaulTaylor
Thanks for your input. I’m trying to get it to look better on mobile. If you’re talking about the social media icons, Jetpack added them automatically since the page was new. I thought I had removed them.
If you ever want to make money from your blog, you’ll probably need an About page. When I started making money from my site, having one was a requirement for acceptance, and I had to include a link to it.

I really enjoy your blog and the content you share! Glad you brought this up, I’m definitely going to read more. I miss the days of personal blogs.
Thank you! I feel like blogging is coming back as a way to express creativity. I’d love to see how others view the world through their blogs. I think it makes people more open.

It would be great if you added a way for readers to subscribe to your blog and get updates when you post new content.
I believe I set it up so readers can subscribe when they comment. I think I also have a pop-up encouraging subscriptions as they scroll through my content. Did you see that pop-up box?

Actually, I just added a section at the bottom of each post for subscriptions based on your suggestion. Thank you!
I didn’t notice it before, but I just did and subscribed
I believe About and About Me pages are really important and one of the key areas on your site. You don’t need to share your identity or important details, but readers usually want to know more. Sharing your site’s purpose and what inspires you helps build trust and respect for the blogger. People are less likely to stick around if the blogger seems distant.
@TerryPeters
I feel the same way. If an About page doesn’t clarify the site’s purpose or the author’s inspiration, it might look like the site is just there to make money. This is especially true if there are many ads or affiliate links.
I prefer to keep things private, so I was not really into the idea of an About page. But I had to add one to include my education and work experience related to my blog, kind of like a way to show why you can trust me.
I see it gets a lot of visits, so people are interested in knowing who’s behind the blog.
